Lila's Sweet Treats

Much More than a Diagnosis

If you’ve tried any of the items from our Kottage Kitchen, you can easily tell they are the product of special ingredients, time and limitless love. But the story behind Lila’s Sweet Treats makes their items even sweeter.

Lila’s family and friends believe sharing her story and dispelling myths of those with Down syndrome and other disabilities is why they were chosen for this journey.

Early on, their family appeared at fundraising events for Children’s Hospital in Columbia, including the B106 Radiothon, the Publix Miracle balloon campaign and several recruitment efforts. Soon after, the hospital foundation staff asked the Mozingo family to be a part of the University of South Carolina Dance Marathon and allow Lila to be one of several local Miracle Kids. They quickly agreed and have participated each year, allowing the college students to get to know Lila as they attend events together throughout each year.

Quality medical care saved Lila’s life, starting with her first emergency surgery when she was just three days old. But finding inclusive, challenging educational opportunities was not as easy. To surround Lila with educational professionals who saw Lila’s potential, the Mozingos were forced to move Lila to a private Montessori program. That’s when the idea of selling the sour dough bread first came to them – sour dough for a sweet purpose. During the COVID pandemic, they were forced to homeschool Lila using available resources for tutoring and other opportunities. Today, those efforts continue, allowing Lila the time to hone her salesmanship skills as well as being center stage for advocacy events.

Lila's family - and Lila - are working hard to make sure she has an independent future. The goal is for Lila to be a contributing member of the community and to give back to others.

Right now, that business is home-based creating delicious treats for special orders (individual and gift baskets), and to sell at Knick Knacks & More,  and Boland's Ace Hardware and special events. Lila also participates in a variety of markets where she is able to build life and job skills by selling her goodies. Every step is teaching life skills and building awareness of the limitless potential of any individual, when loved and supported.

The Mozingos have proven that the Lila's Sweet Treats concept is a winner, and dream of taking the next step - building a commercial kitchen that would allow Lila - and other young people - to work to grow the business. There's a demand for the products, and no shortage of friends who could be hired to help and have a fulfilling, legitimate work opportunity. What's stopping them? Capital.

Cedar Hill Handmade Soaps

Display of colorful handmade soaps labeled with names like “Wine Country” and “Sweetness.”

Meet Carrie! She is a local wife, mother, and creator of an all-natural alternative line of soaps, balms, oils, and butters.

It all started about two years ago, when she set out to create a natural and healthy alternative to the harmful chemicals found in most commercially produced products for her family. She successfully created an all-natural line of soaps and began by giving them away to family and friends.

It wasn't long before she began selling them to the public. Her creative juices were flowing, and she now carries a full line of all-natural personal products in our store.

We are thrilled to have Carrie and her sweet family be a part of our Knick Knacks & More adventure here in Ballentine, and we hope that you will stop in and give her beautiful products a try! You won't be disappointed.

Prosperity Home

Kendra Pugh opened Prosperity Home in 2018 with the vision of providing affordable and quality merchandise to the residents of her hometown.

When she met the owners of Knick Knacks and More, she knew that something great was taking place in Ballentine. Kendra shares her vision with the Ballentine community by providing home decor, gifts, and men's apparel in her booth. She hopes that her merchandise transcends what she values in her own home: hospitality, warmth, and friendship.

She and her husband John have three children, two dogs, and a cat. She enjoys spending time with her family, playing the violin, and traveling in her free time.

The Pineapple Express

Welcome to the Pineapple Express, where vintage and antique treasures are waiting to be discovered! Whether you are hunting vintage fashion, retro home décor, unique collectables, or amazing works of art, our booth has it all!

My name is Leslie, and my love of all things vintage and antique began with my beloved Nannie, and continued through the years with my mother. As a child, I would spend hours plundering through my Nannie’s things. I admired and loved her clothing, shoes, purses, jewelry, AND the furniture those items were stored in.

As a teen/young adult, my mother was upcycling and recycling, way before it was cool. From her I learned how to create unique fashion and beautiful home décor from something old. This fueled my love of all things unique and “old,” and as an adult, I’m still plundering through “stuff”
hunting super cool treasures. I am blessed to have a booth where I can share these
treasures with you.

Stop in and plunder around at The Pineapple Express for a one-of-a-kind fantastic find!
